Five Hard-Won Lessons for Working Remote PLC & SCADA Engineers

After hundreds of remote placements, here's what we've learned about making industrial automation engineers thrive remotely.

1. Treat the engineer as part of the team - not a vendor

Add them to your Teams / Slack channel. Invite them to the daily standup. The best OSCABE placements happen when engineers integrate into your engineering culture.

2. Use the timezone overlap deliberately

India gives 4-6 hours overlap with UK office hours. UAE gives 5-7. Plan handovers at the start and end of overlap - not the middle.

3. Trust the verified work history

When we say "CE-verified", a Chartered Engineer has reviewed the actual project deliverables. You don't need to second-guess basic competency.

4. Codify your platform conventions early

Write down the way your shop names tags, structures programs, lays out HMIs. Send it on day one. Engineers will adopt it - but only if it's documented.

5. Pay on time

Engineers remember the clients who paid invoices the day they were issued. We've seen 4-year placements grow from this single behaviour.

Hire a dedicated, managed remote team

OSCABE vets, employs, manages and pays dedicated professionals from India and the Middle East for UK & EU companies, under one UK contract. Tell us what you need and we will send a costed plan.
